In the immediate area there are many and varied ways to spend your time.
There are many walks that generally stay away from main roads and give you the opportunity to enjoy the peace and quiet synonymous with the village. There is a significant variety of bird life to be seen ranging from the ubiquitous gulls to cormorants, skylarks, swallows and grey heron. Larger fauna like seals, hares, roe deer and otters are among the more elusive species in the area.
Two golf courses are situated nearby as is a marine aquarium. The village hosts a marina (often full) where many yachts and some small working boats are situated. The annual regatta takes place in the late summer.
Located to the east of the village of Whitehills, the Red Well is a beehive shaped building which, it is claimed, was built in Roman times. The building contains a spring of water that runs red and is believed to have curative properties.
The baroque Duff House is situated in Banff from where a walk to the old Alvah bridge is well worth the effort.
